‘We stayed in Santiago for three days and, suddenly conscious of our worn-to-death clothes, visited El Corte Ingles on the first morning. To our delight Ali and I both fitted into size 12 jeans, and Connie picked out a pretty dress for my nephew’s wedding, which was just a week after we got home.

Over the next few days, it felt as if the Cast of characters we had met on the Camino was gathering for the post show party. Coming back from our shopping expedition, we walked through the Praza do Obradoiro, just at the moment when Mary and Meyrick completed their Camino. We joined in their sweaty knot of celebration and took them for churros to toast the moment.’
